WEEK 6 BYES: BUF, DEN, DET, IND, PIT, SF

Game Recap |
The Bengals continued their ineptitude on Defense as the Chiefs struggling offense got healthy quick on Sunday. The Chiefs were good for 354 total yards including 2 TDs for Tony Gonzalez and the first TD of the year for Larry Johnson. In the game, Gonzalez set the NFL record for TDs from a TE, previously held by Shannon Sharpe. Johnson nearly had another TD earlier in the game as he neared the endzone and fumbled the ball out of the back of the endzone. |
Fantasy Impact |
Larry Johnson finally got through for a TD and looked to have regained some of his for from last season. It will also help that Priest Holmes is coming off the PUP this week. Maybe his presence will motivate LJ into running more agressively. Surprisingly, Dwayne Bowe only had 4 catches for 46 yards but due to the mismatch KC had with Gonzalez, he was largely not needed. TJ Houshmanzadeh continued to impress while he rolled up 145 yards and 2 TDs on the day. |

Game Recap |
When you can't stop the run you won't win many games in the NFL. The Houston Texans couldn't stop the Jags run game as MJD rumbled for 125 yards and 2 TDs and Fred Taylor got another 90 on the ground. In the historic struggles against the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to have obtained a new level of consistency with QB David Garrard at the helm. |
Fantasy Impact |
With regards to Garrard's consistency, he has been ipressive so far this season. He may not put up the most gaudy stats, but he has not committed a turnover all season and has a QB rating over 100. For the second week in a row, MJD appears to be back in form and should be used accordingly. For Houston, Kevin Walter came out of oblivion to get 12 catches for 160 yards on the day. Don't expect that trend to continue. |

Game Recap |
So much for Joey Porter's pre-game woofing. Miami lost their 6th straight game this season and their 9th straight loss dating back to last season. In a sign that the apocolypse is upon us, Cleveland had to battle overconfidence in the game when they junped out to a significant lead. Cleveland held onto the victory for a 41-31 win. |
Fantasy Impact |
Again, Ronnie Brown performed well and rushed for over 100 yards. He is looking like a candidate for fantasy MVP even though the Fins are winless. jason Wright filled in for an injured Jamal Lewis in the game and chipped in for 59 yards and a TD. Derek Anderson continued his quality play in throwing for 3 TDs and no INTs. Cleo Lemon was actually a great play as well, throwing for 2 TDs with 2 INTs and getting another 2 TDs on the ground. Too bad he won't play against Cleveland every week. |

Game Recap |
For really the first time this season, the Green Bay offense struggled ina a game (largely due to the quality of the Skins D) and was bailed out by a fumble by Santana Moss that was returned by Charles Woodson for a 57 yard TD. In the game, Brett Favre recorded another record, albeit a dubious one this time, as the all-time interception king of the NFL. Congrats Brett!!! |
Fantasy Impact |
Both teams looked mediocre on offense but that was to be expected due to the quality of both team's defenses. Chris Cooley was the fantasy PoG with over 100 yards and a TD. Really, every other player was quite mediocre. On the side of the rushing attack for Green Bay, DeShawn Wynn's rushing attempts were the best on the team with a 13:4 ratio over Vernand Morency. He looks to be the #1 RB at this point even though his stats weren't eye popping in the game. |

Game Recap |
In case you didn't get the memo...the greatest show on turf has seen better days. With Gus Frerrote at the helm for the Rams, the team committed 6 turnovers and struggled mightily to move the ball for most of the day. The Ravens put on a field goal clinic in the game, ending with 5 Matt Stover field goals and one TD. |
Fantasy Impact |
The Rams desperately need Bulger, Jackson, and Bruce back in order to be competitive. Even with those guys back, the Rams are clearly not the team they once were due to significant losses on the o-line. Torry Holt looks like his knee is impacting his play as well. We said it in the pre-season, so hopefully you were reading along then. For the Ravens, Kyle Boller got the start and moved the ball well in the game but was only able to get in the endzone once. Without Todd Heap, the Ravens seem to get bogged down often. Willis McGahee has looked solid but unspectacular all season and probably will continue to do so until the Ravens get back Johnathan Ogden, Mike Flynn, and Adam Terry on their offensive line. |

Game Recap |
This was a game of big plays, from start to finish. Devin Hester opened the scoring with an 89 yard punt return TD, and within 2 minutes the Vikings answered with a 60 yard TD pass to Troy Williamson, who didn't drop the ball. Not long after that, Brian Griese threw a 39 yard TD pass to Bernard Berrian. The next 2 scores would be groundbreaking - Minnesota's Adrian Peterson rushed for TD's of 67 and then 73 yards, perfectly setting up his blocks and showing the kind of explosiveness that had him in the top 3 candidates for the Heisman as a true freshman at Oklahoma. After a field goal by each team, AP struck again with a 35 yard TD dash down the sideline to put Minnesota up by 14. However, Griese wasn't finished yet - he threw TD strikes of 33 yards to Muhsin Muhammed and 81 yards to Devin Hester with 1:38 left in the game (I told you, every single TD came on a big play). However, the Bears comeback was not to be, as Ryan Longwell kicked a 55 yard FG as time expired. |
Fantasy Impact |
Adrian Peterson's coming out party has officially begun. Once again, he rushed for over 100 yards - but this time, he rushed for 224 yards, with 3 long TD runs (35, 67 and 73 yards). Chester Taylor had 84 yards on 22 carries, but AP had 224 and 3 TD's on 20 carries. Guess who is going to be the permanent starter? On Chicago's side, it seems like the offense is coming to life now that the memory of Rex is being fossilized. Devin Hester showed he is unstoppable as a big-play receiver as well as a return man, and hopefully you bought him when Dominate Your League had him on the Buy list - because he's been gold since then. |

Game Recap |
This game was largely uneventful, aside from a 75 yard TD pass from McNabb to Kevin Curtis in the game's opening 5 minutes. The only other scoring would be field goals all day, with the final scoring difference being exactly that TD pass. Brian Westbrook returned from the Eagle's bye week to show his value once again, rushing for 120 yards with 6 receptions for 36 more. For the rest of the season, count on the Eagles losing if Westbrook is not in the lineup - he allowed them to hold onto the ball, preventing the Jets from making a comeback. |
Fantasy Impact |
For Westbrook owners, start him every week he plays. He is the key player for Philly every week, and that will not change. Kevin Curtis is developing nicely as a big play threat, and he is a definite start (at least when Westbrook is playing). Basically, if Westbrook is out, stay away from the Eagles' players. As far as the Jets are concerned, the only players worth holding are Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, and Thomas Jones. If Pennington doesn't win the next couple games, you might expect to see Kellen Clemens after the Jets' bye in Week 10. I wouldn't downgrade any of those 3 with Clemens, though. |

Game Recap |
Tampa Bay continued their surprising run this season, which was especially remarkable given their woes at RB. With Williams and Pittman out, Earnest Graham rushed for only 29 yards - but amazingly, the Bucs defense was able to hold off Tennessee and Vince Young well enough to stay in the game riding Jeff Garcia's arm. With a 69 yard pass to Joey Galloway and 2 Matt Bryant FG's, the Bucs were able to hold off the Titans despite a late TD by LenDale White. |
Fantasy Impact |
Jeff Garcia is at worst a solid backup, and at best a starter in deeper leagues. His success in Philly last year was no accident, as he proved by winning this game against a very good Titans defense with no running game at all (Garcia's line - 274 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT). LenDale White had a decent game with 64 yards and a TD, but you shouldn't really expect much more than that from him in any given week. Vince Young left the game in the 3rd quarter due to a quadriceps injury, and didn't return. Watch this situation if you're a VY owner, but don't drop him unless you can get a good trade out of it. |

Game Recap |
This was an old-timer's game, with Vinny Testaverde facing Tim Rattay for much of the game after Warner went down with an injury (elbow) on the first drive. After an Edgerrin James 20 yard rushing TD and a Neil Rackers FG, Arizona led 10-9 going into the fourth quarter. However, Carolina would do all the 4th quarter scoring, beginning with a 65 yard TD pass from Testaverde to Steve Smith and finishing with a DeAngelo Williams rushing TD. After losing Warner, Arizona couldn't muster enough offense to keep Testaverde from becoming the oldest starting quarterback to get a win.
|
Fantasy Impact |
Testaverde to Smith - could this be the start of something special? I wouldn't count on it, but it looks to be better than Carr to Smith. I wouldn't count on Carr being out that long, because he missed the game with only a sore back according to the team. With Warner going down, downgrade every Arizona offensive player until he gets healthy again. Warner didn't rule out the possibility that he would miss next week's game, so be prepared to sit the other guys. Rattay is definitely not fantasy worthy at this point. DeAngelo Williams had a great game with 121 yards and a TD on only 10 carries, but 75 yards of that came one play. He still isn't going to be the starter for Carolina, but he is worth a roster spot for your fantasy team.

Game Recap |
This one turned out as expected, New England won easily (even running up the score in the closing minutes, classy). Tom Brady put in his most dominant performance to date, spreading 5 TDs to 4 different players. The Cowboys couldn’t afford to make many mistakes in this one, but they managed to get called for 12 penalties, which put them on long fields much of the night. |
Fantasy Impact |
The Dallas RBBC is still going strong, almost identical stats for Jones and Barber, although Barber looked much better overall. Barber’s stiff arm clinic in the end zone was impressive. Brady is far and away the fantasy MVP of the year so far, and he won’t slow down any time soon. Moss and Owens botth scored TDs, but it was a diminutive WR that stole the show, as Wes Welker snagged 11 catches for 124 yards and 2 TDs. Brady clearly has an eye for finding him on the field.

Game Recap |
Well looked who showed up to play. We were wondering where you went after we picked you #1 overall. LaDanian Tomlinson scored all 4 of the Chargers TDs as they breezed to a 28-14 win over Oakland. Daunte Culpepper threw 2 picks and fumbled once which essentially killed the Raiders chances to stay in this one. |
Fantasy Impact |
LT was the only bright spot for fantasy owners in this one. Lamont Jordan was held to only 88 total yards in his return from injury, while Ronald Curry got a game-high 73 yards receiving. Antonio Gates had 58 yards total, not terrible, but not great either. Vincent Jackson hasn’t developed into the WR threat many were hoping for, and he should probably be benched now that Chris Chambers has been traded to SD. |

Game Recap |
Matt Hasselbeck was almost beheaded by a falling NBC cable-camera (the XFL camera thingy that hangs over the field), which pretty much summed up the game for Seattle in their 28-17 loss to New Orleans. The Seahawks were unable to get any kind of running game going, and forced into a one-dimensional gameplan they couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively. |
Fantasy Impact |
Reggie Bush didn’t score a TD, but he got 25 touches and 141 total yards. You can expect similar stats for most of the year as the Saints offense will go through him. Drew Brees looked much better with David Patten replacing Devery Henderson. Henderson has little value from here on out as he looks entrenched in the doghouse. Marques Colston chipped in one catch for 2 yards and a TD, but he just can’t seem to find any way to get open these days. |

Game Recap |
The Giants D easily held Atlanta in check as the G-men cruised to a 31-10 victory. The Giants were able to impose their will on the overmatched Atlanta D as well, giving Eli all kinds of time to throw the ball on the overmatched Falcons secondary. A 2:1 time of possession helped as well. |
Fantasy Impact |
We have a Jerious Norwood sighting. 138 total yards and the Falcons only TD. It only took them 6 games to figure out that this guy is a difference maker, good luck Petrino. Roddy White was one again the leading receiver for the Dirty Birds (4 catches 64 yards), play him as a WR3 or bye week fill in as needed. The New York RB situation got a lot uglier with Ruben Droughns also in the mix. This manage-a-trois of RBs (Droughns, Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward) could be a huge headache for owners for weeks to come. |
