TOP FREE AGENT PICKUPS

Quarterback

Player

Rationale

Matt Schaub
Houston Texans

After missing several weeks, Schaub is finally back at practice and will start this weekend against New Orleans. Sounds like a great matchup coming off an injury (and BYE week). Throw in a healthy Andre Johnson into the mix and you are rock solid.

Rex Grossman
Chicago Bears

Well well well, look who’s back. Starter Brian Griese left last week’s game with a shoulder injury that could keep him out this week, and Grossman came to the rescue. While he certainly likes to turn the ball over, there’s no question that he can put up big numbers connecting with Berrian and Muhammad. If you’re the gambling type, and a little bit desperate (they usually show up together), take a shot on Grossman.

Running Back

Player

Rationale

Selvin Young
Denver Broncos

Selvin had some good numbers last week, eclipsing 100 yards on the ground and a TD to go along with it. Travis Henry's suspension hearing is scheduled for November 16th so very soon, Young could be the #1 RB for the remainder of the season. We'll keep you posted when we find out the results. Either way, Henry is dinged up and will likely miss this weekend's game either way.

Chris Brown
Tennessee Titans

With a knee injury to LenDale White and Chris Henry getting suspended, the last man standing is Chris Brown. White’s status is still up in the air for Week 11, but Brown may get the start while he heals. He is almost 100% recovered from his sprained ankle and has shown some serious skills earlier in the season. Most importantly, the Titans will be playing the Denver Broncos and their terrible run D in Week 11.

Wide Receiver

Player

Rationale

Javon Walker
Denver Broncos

It seems like a strange guy to be on this list but believe it or not, Javon is available in about 50% of leagues. He should be a solid contributor when he gets back into the lineup despite having nagging knee problems. You may have to wait another week or two but he may be a great guy to hold onto for your playoff run.

Drew Bennett
St. Louis Rams

Isaac Bruce went down in Week 10 with a hamstring yet again. Earlier in the season he missed 2 games and was ineffective for a few more because of it. Bennett wasn’t healthy enough to benefit from Bruce’s absence (strained quadriceps) but now he is the #2 in St. Louis. With Bulger coming on, and lots of points being put on St. Louis in the coming weeks, Bennett could be a nice low-risk fill-in until Bruce comes back.

Tight End

Player

Rationale

Leonard Pope
Arizona Cardinals

Here’s a guy who does almost nothing all season and then exploded for 57 yards and 2 TDs last week. Ok, so you’re stretching it to put him in your lineup as you can’t really count on any consistent points from him, but he does have a favorable matchup against Cincinnati this weekend. He might finally end up being the receiving threat at TE the Cardinals were hoping for, or he could be one-week wonder waiver material next Monday. We say should get a few more looks after his showing last week, and should be good for 40 yards and a red zone look or two.

Defense/Special Teams

Player

Rationale

St Louis Rams

This ONLY sounds crazy. Food for thought...they are playing the San Francisco 49ers in week 11 who were shut out by a middle of the pack D in Seattle. How bad could the Rams do? You have to figure there is no conceivable way that Alex Smith will throw for 200+
