TOP FREE AGENT PICKUPS

Quarterback

Player

Rationale

JP Losman
Buffalo Bills

At least for one more week, Losman is the starter. If you need a fill in for your bye week, Losman is serviceable. The Bills offense has some nice peices to work with and Losman could put together another solid game.

Running Back

Player

Rationale

Priest Holmes
Kansas City Chiefs

Depending on who you listen to, Larry Johnson is either out for a few weeks or for the season. Either way, Priest Holmes should take on the bulk of the carries in Johnson's absence. The only question is how much gas he has left in the tank.

Ron Dayne
Houston Texans

Ahman Green is still a walking injury report and Dayne just got his first 100 yard game since last season. It doesn't look like Green is going to be 100% healthy at all for the rest of the year, so Dayne should be a quality pickup for your playoff push. The Texans have a bye this week, but play NO in Week 11 where he could put up some solid numbers. In playoffs weeks 14 and 15 he'll play aginst run-friendly defenses from Tampa Bay and Denver. Pick him up and stash him for later.

Wide Receiver

Player

Rationale

David Patten
New Orleans Saints

Now that the offense has gotten on track in the dirty dirty, David seems to be reaping the benefits of a rejuvinated Drew Brees. Patten could be a decent spot starter for you.

Drew Bennett
St Louis Rams

He looks like he might finally be healthy from a quadriceps injury sustained earlier this year, and Bulger has started to get healthy as well. He caught 6 catches for 63 yards in his last action in Week 8 and plays less than stellar NO and SF in the next two weeks. If your WRs can't stay healthy, take a look at Bennett as his 6' 5" frame will ensure that he gets his fair share of red zone targets and secondary mismatches.

Tight End

Player

Rationale

LJ Smith
Philadelphia Eagles

It's clear he's not completely healthy after his return from injury last week, but he did get 4 looks in last week's loss to the Cowboys. He has shown the ability to get it done in the past with more than 600 yards in each of his last two seasons. If you're hurting for TE help, he could come on just in time for the playoffs and give you a solid 5-6 points a game.

Defense/Special Teams

Player

Rationale

Cincinatti Bengals

I know...it goes against everything that logic dictates but last time Cincy played the Ravens, they had a rediculous amount of turnovers and scored major fantasy points. This is not an indictment on the great quality of defense being played in Cincy but how terrible the Ravens offense (and Steve McNair) look these days. It is truly a pathetic diaplay of NFL caliber football.
