TOP FREE AGENT PICKUPS

Quarterback

Player

Rationale

Chad Pennington
New York Jets

Ol' noodle arm turned in a solid outing against the Bills (290 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) in Week 4, and he goes up against the Giants in Week 5. He's not going to set the world on fire, but a decent matchup and a solid set of receivers makes him a good pickup for this week.

David Carr
Carolina Panther

No I haven't lost my mind. If you are hard up for a QB for week 5, you could do worse than Carr. He faces the pathetic New Orleans pass D this weekend and is worth a look for a one week play.

Running Back

Player

Rationale

Michael Pittman
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With Carnell out (possibly for his career), Michael Pittman is a proven commodity to step in and provide solid fantasy performance week-in and week-out.

Dominic Rhodes
Oakland Raiders

The key here is to see how LaMont Jordan heals from his back injury. If he misses any game time, it appears that Rhodes will see the bulk of the carries.

Kenton Keith
Indianapolis Colts

Joseph Addai left the game against Denver in the fourth quarter and Keith picked up without missing a beat taking 10 carries for 80 yards. Addai's shoulder injury doesn't appear serious, but Keith could get a few more carries now that he's shown to be a dependable backup. Addai is the man for now, but Indy could use Keith to spell him so the Colts have a healthy backfield for the playoffs.

Wide Receiver

Player

Rationale

Anthony Gonzalez
Indianapolis Colts

It appears that Harrison may miss this weekend's game with an injury so Gonzo may get a chance to haul in a Peyton Manning TD. Reggie Wayne should be huge this weekend but Anthony Gonzalez should have adequate opportunities to get some stats if Harrison is out.

Andre Davis
Houston Texans

Finally a Texans WR steps up to fill the void left by Andre Johnson. Davis was a one-man show for Houston's injury-plagued passing attack, tallying 117 yards and a TD in Week 4. If Johnson, Jacoby Jones, and Jerome Mathis are still banged up in the coming weeks, Davis will continue to get plenty of looks his way.

Tight End

Player

Rationale

Packer TEs
Green Bay Packers

Donald Lee and Bubba Franks have helped the Packers passing game to become one of the most efficient in the league. Lee is probably the better play between the two, but they both receive the same amount of looks from Favre. Franks is more of a red zone threat, but Lee will put in some decent yardage and catch numbers. Not fantasy starters yet by any means, but either one is a decent gamble for a bye week fill-in against an ailing Chicago D.

Defense/Special Teams

Player

Rationale

Arizona Cardinals

They play St. Louis this weekend, whose offense is in complete shambles. Normally they are not a great matchup but this weekend they are.
