2007 Season Buy Em'/Sell Em' List - Week #5

Published on 10/3/07 by Mike Carter and Aaron Rich

The Buy Em' / Sell Em' is a piece we run each week that helps you to identify players that you should trade for (Buy Em') and those players that you should try to trade away (Sell Em'). You can really improve your roster throughout the season if you can buy low and sell high, just like the stock market. So check back here each week for a list of players that are prime targets to be bought and sold.

BUY EM'...

Player

Rationale

1

Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints

Brees has had horrible fantasy stats so far, but he has played against 2 very good AFC teams and a resurgent Tampa Bay.  There's no doubt he's going to pick it up as the season moves along and their schedule gets a little easier.  Brees just had his bye week, and it is always a great trade if you can exchange a player who still has a bye week with one who already had his.

2

Jaguars DEF/ST

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jags have also had their bye week, and have yet to surrender more than 14 points.  They did give up a lot of yards to Chris Brown against the Titans, but that was a fluke and they bounced back with a win against Denver's consistent rushing game.

3

Maurice Jones-Drew

Jacksonville Jaguars

You may be sensing a trend in this week's buys - pick up guys who have had their bye week, since you will get more weeks of production than you give up.  Jones-Drew hasn't had impressive stats yet, but he is an explosive runner and it will not be long before he starts scoring touchdowns.  Though he may not get as many as last year, he can still boost your team for a playoff run.

4

LanDale White

Tennessee Titans

Another guy with a bye over with, White has looked much better than expected so far and has shown considerable power.  He is a great goal-line option (2 TD's in 3 games) because he can push the pile, but don't expect a ton of yards because he's too fat to be fast.  Expect him to play TD vulture to Brown whenever Brown is healthy, and with defenses concentrating on the threat of Vince Young, White will be able to make yards consistently throughout games.

5

Marques Colston

New Orleans Saints

Many people believe Colston is underperforming, but he really isn't that far below last season's output.  He averaged 74.1 reception yards/game last year, and is currently at 61.7.  His biggest deficit right now is that he has scored only 1 TD, which will pick up with a concomitant improvement to Brees's stats.  He has also used up his bye.

Rationale

1

Jamal Lewis

Cleveland Browns

As a Raven's fan, I'm oligated to tell you that Jamal Lewis has a game or two a year that are clear aberrations of his true value. If you can catch him coming off a big game, high value will be at an all time high for trades.

2

Steve Smith

Carolina Panthers

There are rumors that Delhomme may be done for the season. If that is the case, Carr will kill Steve Smith's value. If you find out for sure that Delhomme is out for the season...move FAST and trade off Steve Smith. By the way...it hurts my soul to put Steve Smith on this list. There is not a more fierce competitor in the NFL.

3

Torry Holt

St Louis Rams

We said it in the preseason that his injury would limit him but the offensive line problems appear to be a more significant problem. Add in Bulger missing some time and you have a Torry Holt nightmare on your hands.

4

Rudi Johnson

Cincinatti Bengals

Even when he was healthy, he was averaging 3.1 YPC and has a total of 0 TDs for the season. This is not acceptable for a guy in the Cincy offense.

5

Darrell Jackson

San Francisco 49ers

With Dilfer at the helm, Jackson is worth very little. If you can dump him on somebody else, do it.
