2007 Fantasy Football Busts, Part I

Quarterback

Rationale

1

Ben Roethlisberger
Pittsburgh Steelers

I've been accused of being a Steeler hater before (and I probably am), however, Ben Roethlisberger showed a few chinks in the armor last season that can't be ignored. Without the protection of a top caliber running game, he was exposed often when he tried to force the action. I firmly believe that when a QB loses his edge and his confidence is shaken, he is headed for a downward spiral.

2

Eli Manning
New York Giants

Speaking of lack of protection from a non-existant running game, the loss of Tiki Barber is going to be felt heavily in New York this season.. If the team doesn't break into mutiny due to Coughlin, they surely will due to Eli's play at QB.

3

Matt Schaub
Houston Texans

For a guy that has started a total of 2 games in his career, people seem to be very optomistic. If I were a Texan's fan, I would be terrified for the season to start. Not because I'm convinced that Schaub will be a poor QB, but bacause my team has continued to neglect the Offensive line for years and opposing Defenses are going to kill my new QB, just like they did to David Carr.

Running Back

Rationale

1

Chester Taylor
Minnesota Vikings

Here's my problem with Chester. When you get !350 touches ina season, you really should score more than 6 TDs. Especially when you have a few stud O-linemen in front of you. I also think that the Vikings Offense is going to be terrible in the early part of the season and the fan base will be looking for any spark of hope...enter Adrian Peterson...exit Chester Taylor

2

LenDale White
Tennessee Titans

"Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son"
~Dean Wormer

I can't really prove that LenDale is a drunk so I'll just focus on his poor work ethic. I can't repeat it enough how important it is in the NFL to work hard. Everybody has talent or else they wouldn't be in the league. The guys that have the drive are the ones that succeed and those that don't flounder out of the NFL. ***I should get bonus points for 2 Animal House references in one player writeup. He even looks out of shape in his picture.

3

Warrick Dunn
Atlanta Falcons

Probably the most underrated and unappreciated guy in the league, Warrick Dunn chugs out 1,000 yards season with regularity and is surprisingly durable for a guy that is 5'9". That being said, I think the Jerious Norwood era is about to begin and the looming loss of Michael Vick for the season is sure to make opposing linebackers be more prone to attack the line of scrimage.

Wide Receiver

Rationale

1

Mike Furrey
Detroit Lions

How can you not like a guy named Mike Furrey? Seriously... The problem is how in the world is he going to get significant playing time with Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson in the lineup.

2

Chris Chambers
Miami Dolphins

A year after passing on Drew Brees for Daunte Culpepper, the Dolphins made a trade for Trent Green. I know I'm not a GM but how could this seem like a good idea? I'd steer clear from Dolphins receivers until at least the John Beck era.

3

Rod Smith
Denver Broncos

He hit the wall pretty hard last year. Probably from too many cheeseburgers over the years. At 37, don't expect a rejuvination to happen. Javon Walker is the clear #1 on this team now and Rod will be doing good just to stay in the starting lineup.

Tight End

Player

Rationale

Kellen Winslow Jr.
Cleveland Browns

Winslow is young enough to come back from Microfracture surgery but here's the problem. He had the surgery on January 30. He simply won't have time to properly heal for this season. I would steer clear unless you can get him at the end of your draft.

Defense/Special Teams

Player

Rationale

Minnesota Vikings

They couldn't stop anybody from passing on them last season, so did they address the secondary in the draft. Nope... In fact, they had a chance to draft a quality saftety in LaRon Landry but chose Adrian Peterson instead. Expect more of the same on the defensive side of the ball this season.
